Larry said that although his mother was not musically talented, she passed along other equally important gifts—a robust joy for life, good humor, generosity, compassion, love and respect for others. He recalls frequent family gatherings around a table of mounds of delicious, often garden-grown, homemade, meals. Friends were always welcomed. Larry remembers that while growing up, his mother, Grace, often passed along some of her wisdom statements for life. One of them was “Oh, don’t cry over spilled milk.” She also said, “There’s nothing new under the sun.” So years later, he wrote a song, Under The Sun. Hard workers at raising their family of six active and precocious children, his parents passed on a strong and vibrant work ethic. His inspiration for writing songs comes from a multitude of places, life experiences, the antics of his young sons—He kept journals and wrote hundreds of songs taken right from life. Some of his song titles reflect this:
Socks, The Fair, Jelly Joe
The Ants, Easy Street, Baseball
Under The Sun
Ride To The Stars
Tell Me Moon
Tornado Alley, Mud
Crabby Land
Fragilly, What’s In The Box
Sam The Waltzing Bear
Where Do I Start
Bears March, Dreams
The Carousel Collection
A prolific songwriter, his catalogue runs long. He plans to have these songs professionally rearranged for future release. His audience reach is astounding--children, teenagers, parents, grandparents, teachers, and the general public. These wonderful songs of inspiration; funny, humorous, entertaining, and a sing-a-long style song such as Dirty Dan have wide audience appeal. To date, all of his published children’s books under his ReadSing Label include original songs on a c-d often crafted with professional voiceovers which bring the characters in his books to life.
After years of study, practice, drive and determination, not-to-mention many personal sacrifices along the way, he is comfortable and having fun. But, he is not done. Larry, as an active member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and illustrators (SCBWI), is currently fine-tuning his writing skills as a children’s book author.
